Pavilion Dome, John Muir Wilderness

Russ stayed in camp to read and relax in the hot spring, so Tom and I had the chance to hike far up river to fish. The South Fork San Joaquin was raging with snowmelt. We covered two miles of river and found trout eager to bite our flies in the eddies and deeper pools. It was a pleasure to fish with Tom, a capable and competent angler who also likes to keep just far enough apart to fish in solitude. I stopped and painted where the view of Pavilion Dome loomed over the turquoise glacial river.
